What Insurance Covers

  • Most major health insurance / cancer insurance policies cover inpatient treatment for cancer, including diagnostic workup, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal or targeted therapy.
  • Day-care treatments related to cancer, such as chemo or radiotherapy sessions, are often included, even when hospitalization is not required.
  • Pre-hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation expenses (medicines, diagnostics, follow-ups) are often covered for a defined duration (common is ~30 days before and 60 days after admission) depending on policy.
  • Insurance often covers room rent (private or single room) and ICU charges up to policy limits. Actual coverage may depend on your Sum Insured and the “room category” specified.

What Insurance May Not Cover (Exclusions & Limits)

  • Treatments not directly linked to cancer (non-oncology related illnesses) are usually outside coverage.
  • Cosmetic or aesthetic procedures not medically necessary, experimental or unproven treatment methods are often excluded.
  • Pre-existing conditions or disease discovered within the “waiting period” (often first 90 days or more) may not be covered.
  • Some policies have sub-limits or co-payments that apply (i.e., you may need to pay a portion of the bill).

Billing & Payment Process at Unveilm

1. Pre-treatment Estimate

Before major treatment begins, we provide a detailed cost estimate, including medical procedures, diagnostics, hospital stay, medicines, and any non-medical costs (e.g. room upgrades, interpreter services).

2. Insurance Verification & Pre-Authorization

If you have insurance, we verify whether your insurer has a network or tie-up with our hospital. We assist you in submitting required documents and get pre-authorization (if needed), so that insurance clearance is obtained ahead of admission.

3. Deposit / Advance Payment

For inpatient admissions, a percentage of estimated costs must be paid in advance (deposit) to confirm treatment scheduling. Any changes in plan will reflect in revised cost estimates.

4. Treatment & Interim Billing

During your stay, the billing department will update provisional bills regularly to keep you informed of costs incurred so far.

5. Final Billing & Settlement

On discharge, you receive the final hospital bill. If insurance will cover part of it, we assist with claim paperwork. Any amount not covered by insurance must be settled by the patient/family.

We accept various modes of payment including credit/debit cards, wire transfers, and other bank instruments.
Currency conversion (if needed) will be handled at prevailing rates.

Tips for Patients to Smooth Insurance Claims

  • Always share your insurance policy documents, declarations, and history in advance.
  • Ensure that all required medical records, diagnostics, histopathology reports, and treatment plans are documented.
  • Keep all invoices, discharge summaries, receipts, prescriptions, and claims forms safe.
  • Clarify the room category allowed in your policy (single/double room etc.), so avoid unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Ask about waiting periods, co-payments, sub-limits, and whether foreign insurance or ambulance charges are covered.
